This body of work explores the sublime intersection of strength and softness in nature through misty, atmospheric portrayals of mountainous landscapes. Inspired by the wild beauty of British Columbia’s coastal terrain and the poetic visual language of traditional Chinese mountain scroll paintings, these paintings meditate on the timeless dialogue between mountain and water, permanence and change.
Mountains, with their grounded, towering forms, symbolize endurance and stillness. In contrast, flowing water and mist—ever shifting, elusive—speak to transformation, motion, and the ephemeral. Together, these elements form a visual narrative that invites stillness, reflection, and awe. Light breaks through cloud and fog, not only as a compositional focus but as a metaphor for moments of clarity in the midst of change.
In this series, I aim to create visual portals—quiet spaces where viewers can sense the harmony and tension that exist in nature and, perhaps, in themselves.
